The
Bahía de Roses
Roses is an intrinsically Mediterranean fishing town with
a distinct tradition in tourism. It is situated in a unique
natural environment, in the north of the Costa Brava, less than
30 km from the French border, 65 km from Girona and 160 km from
Barcelona.
Its origins can be traced back to the 8th century BC, with the
arrival of the Rhodians and the foundation of the Greek city
of Rhodes. Throughout history, the Bahía de Roses has
been the gateway to numerous towns and civilisations that have
left behind evidence of their existence. In this way, we are
able to see the 3,000 years of history that can be found here,
in the form of vestiges from the past, from pre-history to the
present, by way of the Greek colonisation, the Roman settlements
and medieval towns, each leaving traces of rich and extraordinary
archaeology.
Roses is an ideal tourist destination and offers a wide variety
of options: Sample the seafood, go trekking, enjoy water sports,
discover the historical heritage or simply relax while enjoying
the splendid sunsets.
Roses enjoys a privileged location, lying in a area which offers
an extraordinarily rich natural landscape. If you are a lover
of nature and fond of walking, here you have the possibility
to carry out excursions and treks all year round, allowing you
to discover and admire natural areas of incalculable value such
as the Cabo
de Creus Natural Park, the Aiguamolls
de L'Empordà Natural Park and the Albera
Natural Area.
